Pissing on Rules
Do you think rules exist for good reason?
Or are they made to be broken?
I’m of the mind some rules should be absolutely shattered into oblivion…
While the rest are meant to be bent as you see fit.
Especially if the way a particular rule is laid out ain’t your cup of tea.
For example…
— You don’t have to go to College or University simply because everyone else is or because your parents think you should.
Hell, my grandparents set up an education fund that would have covered the majority of most 4-year programs, and I still dropped out after half a semester…because I quickly discovered more schooling wasn’t my bag (that cash will be put to much better use by my sisters).
— You don’t have to drop 10K+ on an engagement ring if you don’t want (I’ve got a story on this for another day).
— Go spend some time living on the other side of the planet if that’s what you want to do.
— In sales & marketing, much of your success is dependent on how you position your product/service/offer. You have complete control over this, and should be paying utmost attention to it.
There’s also your positioning in life to consider. Do you position yourself how you want to? Or allow yourself to bend, fold, and crumple to the whims of others?
Now, breaking and bending rules is a bold move that’s gonna raise some eyebrows.
Doing so is essential if you want to go against the grain, but scary nonetheless, and often uncomfortable.
Truth is, if you want to build your ideal world, bending rules, breaking norms, and “doing you” is key.
As my old friend Erik once shared with me, “then you came along and showed me how much freedom there was to be had by literally not caring [about the opinions and mutterings of others].”
That’s not to say don’t care about a damn thing—but the only things worth caring about are the things that light you the fuck up inside.
Something that lights me the fuck up inside is the Sorcerers Guild paper and ink newsletter, largely because it’s a vehicle to write as honestly & openly as can be, while sharing valuable insights, stories, and action steps to help you break, bend, and shatter conventional rules while you build your ideal world.
There are no rules inside the Sorcerers Guild.
