The first thing you need to do is…

“No…no…don’t start there…”

…I thought while sitting on the couch at my barbershop on Saturday afternoon.

I was listening to my barber and one of her co-workers talk about the logo she wanted to design for the business idea she’d cooked up.

They went deep on the subject…

“It has to have a purpose”

“Be part of a bigger picture”

“Speak to the right people”

On and on and on.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with designing a logo, putting a whole lotta thought into it, and having a symbol for your business.

But.

It’s one of the LAST things you should do, especially if you’re just trying to get your idea off the runway.

It doesn’t matter if you invest 5, 10, or even 20K into having “the best” logo designed.

Your logo—especially when nobody knows who the fuck you are—will not do jack shit for moving your business forward.

Do you know why?

One of the two lessons I learned from Gary Vee before I stopped tuning into his “hustle!hustle!hustle!” spiel is that “cash is oxygen.”

Pouring your heart, soul, and resources into a logo is NOT going to generate you cash, leading to valuable breathing room.

Your sales & marketing skills is THE first (and only) thing that’s going to fill your treasure chest with gold doubloons.

If you don’t understand sales, the reasons why people buy, and how to ethically persuade people that what you’ve got is what they need…your logo is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

If you’ve got you’re head in the sand when it comes to sales, marketing, copywriting, etc…that’s your first order of business.

When you’re starting out, you need to be all about those quick wins, and focusing on what’s actuallygoing to move your business ahead.

And that only happens if you know how to generate business.

I made this mistake way back when with my first go-around at building a fitness business.

I poured all my resources into building a slick website, and assumed that would be enough.

I didn’t know jack-shit about sales & marketing, and as a result, generated ~$1200 over 7 months.

Not good.

When I finally sacked up for Round Two with the fitness business, I did things a little differently.

As a result of having a much better idea of how to sell and generate business, I had 4 paying one-on-one clients + a group program set-up before my website was ready.

From there, all I had to do was build on that momentum.

If you don’t “get” sales, marketing, and doing the things focused on generating cash, your business is dead in the water.

So, to prevent that from happening to you, sales & marketing is but one of the things I’m going to be teaching you with the monthly deliveries of the Sorcerers Guild print newsletter.
